check that they perform as well as the results of an FBI background check. By successfully passing both
background checks, approved investigators in Maryland are allowed to conduct undercover surveillance. Anyone
trying to perform surveillance on their own, without becoming a licensed private investigator, could be subject to civil
and/or criminal charges. If one of our investigators is approached by law enforcement, we simply identify ourselves
by showing the officer the identification card issued by the Maryland State Police.
Most detective agencies require a signed contract and deposit before any work can begin on your case. The
contract should clearly show the hourly rate that you will be charged as well as the cost of any travel/mileage. This
information is available on our web site by clicking the "Form" tab. Also make sure that the contract shows that no
work will be performed on your case without your prior approval. The deposit can be in any amount but should be
enough to cover the number of hours that you expect to have investigators work your case. We can help you
determine the deposit amount once we talk to you and figure out the exact circumstances of your case. Most
deposits are between $500 and $2000. We accept cash, money orders, personal checks and credit cards.

Investigators will use a video camera to document the activities of your surveillance event. We video tape as much
activity as possible without taking any undue risks. If the subject is alone and simply stops at WAWA to get a cup of
coffee, investigators remain in the area but are not concerned about obtaining any video. If the subject were to talk
to someone in the parking lot then we would start recording. If the subject were to meet someone of the
opposite sex and go to a restaurant for lunch we would try to get into position to video tape them walking across the
parking lot and entering the restaurant BUT not do anything to draw their attention, knowing that we will be able to
get a good shot of them coming back out.
